Fantastic turnout for the SwissChips Annual Event 2025
We had our first SwissChips Annual Event this past Monday, June 30 at the Landesmuseum in Zurich and we had a fantastic turnout! Over 200 participants from our SwissChips community, Swiss universities, universities of applied sciences and industry leaders came together for an inspirational day of talks, posters and networking.
SwissChips Director, Christoph Studer, kicked off the day with an introduction to SwissChips and summary of our first year achievements, followed by an invited talk from external page Peter Broennimann, SERI, who talked about how SwissChips came about, its connection to Horizon and Digital Europe, and closed with a few motivating words on the path forward. Talks from each of our work package leaders followed, highlighting our SwissChips research and achievements over the first year.
external page Evangelos Eleftheriou started the afternoon with an exciting keynote on "Revolutionizing AI Acceleration with In-Memory Computing: The Axelera AI Journey" followed by invited talks from external page Lars Kamm, OST on "Shaping the Microelectronics Workforce", and external page Cemal Aydogan, Hitachi Energy, Swissmem SEMI, who discussed needs of the Swiss semiconductor industry.
The poster and networking session wrapped up the event with over 40 posters highlighting chip design research from our SwissChips students, and external researchers, including our successful IC design applicants, and a few fun demo tables.
We were honored that our first annual event was a successful and inspiring day, marking a significant step forward in fostering collaborative research across Switzerland in the fields of semiconductor technologies, microelectronics, and next-generation integrated circuit (IC) design.
We would like to thank everyone who made this achievement possible — including our SwissChips work package PIs and co-PIs, our distinguished speakers, session chairs, the Project Management Office for the coordination, our student helpers, the WP1 team for documenting the day, our dedicated students, and all participants whose active engagement was instrumental to the event’s success!
We look forward to seeing everyone again at next year’s event, hosted at EPFL by the external page EcoCloud team, on Tuesday, June 23 2026.
