Tiny Tapeout for SwissChips: Open-source IC design for everyone

We're excited to be collaborating with external page Tiny Tapeout!  Tiny Tapeout is supporting SwissChips with outreach activities, bringing open-source IC design to students and enthusiasts through chip design tutorials and workshops.

Tiny Tapeout allows 100s of designs to be manufactured in one chip using open-source tools.  SwissChips is working with Tiny Tapeout and IHP to have several tape-outs in IHP130nm.  We'll be targeting enthusiasts and high-school students, with runs and boards sponsored for Swiss participants.

The first test chips have been submitted and our first run is expected September 2025.

Join our first Tiny Tapeout workshop: June 27, 2025 at ETH Zurich

Are you excited about designing your own chip and having it made and delivered to you?  We are too!  Join us for our external page Tiny Tapeout workshop, design your own chip, and be part of the first run (planned for September 2025) to have the workshop designs manufactured on a chip.  Our workshop is for students, enthusiasts and really anyone excited about making their own chip.

We've passed some important milestones before our public tapeout planned for September 2025:

IHP’s SG13G2 PDK was added to Tiny Tapeout, enabling the first generation of  Open Source Chips 100% made in EU.

Our first tapeout was sent to IHP in July 2024 to help us test the external page The Open ROAD Project flow scripts, external page DRCexternal page LVS and a test padring. It included some simple designs to allow for some basic measurements to get ready for opening a public Tiny Tapeout shuttle for IHP,  planned for September 2025.

The first experimental tapeout on IHP SG13G2 was a success!

The chip contains 24 designs from Tiny Tapeout users, including several RISC-V cores, a USB CDC core, several projects with VGA output, an AY-3-8913 PSG replica, and a tiny FPGA design.

As always, the chip is completely open source and is released under the Apache 2.0 license: external page https://github.com/TinyTapeout/tinytapeout-ihp-0p1/

Our second experimental shuttle with IHP, on their SG13G2 130 nm node was submitted in November 2024.
